About Kathi Davis
A completely unauthorized and until I go-live with this later today, unbeknownst-to-her,
glimpse into the world of Kathi Davis Why?
Until something like Windchill's rescue happens, you go through life in relative
anonymity. You do things not because people will ever know - but because they're
the right thing to do. Kathi Davis is one of those people - her's has been a life of giving to
horse welfare and never for recognition.
WindChill brought a bunch of people into our lives - mostly good. But with that
attention came armchair judgment, scrutiny, and lots
of opinions. Our lives became something to
vote on. Decisions became second-guessed from afar. Some bad things happened
along the way...
and feelings were hurt. "You don't write the same...you're not Jeff..."
And you all were right -she's not me. She doesn't write like I do. She writes and
feels things differently because she's a different person. I think she's a person with a
very tender heart that she keeps carefully hidden away beneath a tough exterior
forged by years spent
outside caring for horses.
Kathi is truly the unsung hero in the life and times of Windchill. I wish I had
had the time to record his happy whinny each time she entered the barn. I hope
someday she doesn't tear up when she thinks about him like she does now. That
little colt loved her so much - and she loved him. Her patience and expertise
gave Windchill 20 days - 20 days to learn what love was and heal the most
important part of him - his soul and spirit. And as you all know - in less than
20 days Windchill taught us all about hope. The time she spent laying next to
him on the floor of the barn in below zero weather took a toll on her that would
take two months to heal and start to put some weight back on (maybe I should've
grained her?...). Weighing in at a 100 lbs on a rainy day, she didn't have the
weight to lose...yet was out there with him day after day, night after night.
I want you to see the person I had hoped would lead The WindChill Legacy, Ltd.
- and wholeheartedly agreed. Kathi is now Executive
Director and Vice President of the Legacy. Equine interests could not be better
served!
